This free online
calculator is based on moment distribution method developed by Hardy Cross
for solving indeterminate beams. This calculator can be used for continuous beams
of two span having end supports as fixed and intermediate support as
roller. The spans can be subjected to
point loads, uniformly distributed load, varying load and applied moments.
Instructions for using Moment Distribution Calculator
(i). Sign convention
(a)The loads acting upward are considered as positive while the downward loads are taken
as negative. Sagging bending moment is
taken as positive and hogging as negative. The clock-wise rotation
and moments are negative and anticlock-wise
as positive.
(b) In case of Fixed-end moments, the
anticlock-wise moment at left-end support is taken as negative; it
will cause hogging moments in the beam, whereas at the right-end
support the clock-wise moment is taken as positive which causes
hogging.
(ii) All the distances should be entered in meter and
measured from the reference point as shown in the figure.
(iii) Point Load is to be entered in kN and intensity
of uniform load or varying load in kN/m
(iv) The values of Modulus of elasticity for both the spans should be in the same unit. Also the Moment of inertia of both the spans should be entered in same units. Alternately these values can be entered proportionately e.g,
if E2=2E1.you can enter E1=1 and E2=2. |
